I do agree with you though about no one knowing what all is involved in this. It is just hard for people to believe that Cam didn't know anything about the Money deal when he told Miss St. coaches that the Money was to good at Auburn. And honestly it doesn't matter if Auburn paid him or not. The solicitation of Money by a parent is a violation.

They suspended Damon Stoudimire in 95 for his dad accepting a plane ticket. They suspended Dez Bryant last year for talking to an agent. They have a track record that shows in most case's ,somewhat similar to this, of suspending players till it is cleared up. The difference in this case is Auburn is undefeated and will probably play for a national championship. But even with all that. I think it could all be cleared up if Cecil Newton would just explain where he got the money to get his church up to code. But no one ever explains that. That is why most people see him as guilty and honestly that makes Auburn look guilty as well....
No, the difference is that the school he is attending, Auburn, was not mentioned in any of the pay-for-play news that broke. If he went to Miss. State, he would be ineligible right now. But he went to Auburn, so those restrictions do not apply.

This rule is as such because of Memphis DT Albert Means, a name Im sure you and a few others will remember.

Give me a break man, The rule you mention could be read to suspend Newton just as easily as it was used to keep him eligible.

How did the church get fixed? If you think Auburn isn't dirty in this you are kidding yourself. Along with the SEC and NCAA..... I am sorry but I have to agree with Pat Haden in this one. And listen that isn't easy for a UT fan. This one stinks to high heaven. To many powerful people mentioned in this deal and the way things are going I don't think we will ever know the truth.....

For all anyone knows, that money was put in the offering plate..by whom in that case would be irrelevant cuz it would be seen as a donation to a church. Would that make it right?..not exactly, but it couldn't be construed as an NCAA violation either..or at least one that could be proven and could stick. After all, what's the NCAA gonna do?..set someone in each church in the nation to make sure Alumni don't put anything in the offering plate on Sundays? There's quite a few ways the church could have gotten the money to fix the building..and some of it prolly did come out of the state of Alabama..but who is to say?
...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

If that is where it came from fine...... That is my point. No one will say..... Why not?

The fact the church hasn't been open in over two years and has lost its non-profit status in the state of Georgia ,according to the Atlanta paper, also makes that argument look very unlikely. You add to the fact Cecil admittedly shopped his son to Miss. St. and It doesn't take a brain surgeon to put this together.

This is about money and TV ratings. There is no way in hell that if Auburn wasn't undefeated and getting ready to play for the national championship that this kid would be playing. It is pretty clear to most people including the commissioner?s of both the PAC-10 and the Big 10 that the NCAA's ruling isn't consistent with ruling's they have made in the past.

There are a ton of powerful people that have some interest in this one way or another. No one knows how it is going to shake out in the end.....

    Re: Newton cleared to play

There are just certain things in life that ring true no matter the day, month or year you say them, the SEC is a cash cow for college football, it makes and takes a lot of money for a lot of people. It is the closest thing the NFL has to a developmental league the talent is better, the weather nicer, the fans are crazier, and the expectations higher than anywhere else. If it sequels, it gets fixed first. The SEC is treated different because it is different. Whether it is fair or not is another matter. After all the smoke clears the damage will be seen on whether the Newton's did wrong or not. And this magical season for Auburn will become SEC legend or the biggest scam since the last biggest scam. But always remember this has happened at Auburn before and will happen at a college close to your heart (insert favorite school here). But leave Cam alone and pass the offering plate, please cause The Church of the For Sale QB needs carpet.

No, it couldn't. That rule allows for kids who were used to get money (A. Means, Newton) could go to a school that is NOT implicated in said scandal.
The rule only suspends Cam IF he was at MSU. But since the NCAA has nothing implicating Auburn, they cannot suspend Cam at Auburn.

And that last part is all speculation and gossip. Whether its true or not I dunno. But that has absolutely nothing to do with what I am talking about. I am telling you why Cam is eligible at Auburn.
and Pat Haden is full of ****. His team played an ineligible player and did not have to forfeit any games or the national titles. His school got lucky that they did not have to give up any of their wins, like FSU and Bama has had to do before.

But the last paragraph is not factual, so its not worth discussing when asking why Cam is still eligible.
I believe something happened, but until the NCAA can prove it, why punish the kid? Why punish him for what his dad tried with MSU if it turns out Auburn didnt pay anything? Or what if they ruled him ineligible and it comes out Cecil took nothing from Auburn? Are you advocating that Cam should be punished BEFORE he is found guilty?

Text SizeAAAPrint this page|EmailShare on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on DiggShare on LifestreamWith its ruling on Cam Newton's eligibility, the NCAA declared open season for family or associates of recruits to demand payment to play collegiate athletics. As I warned a couple of weeks ago, there is now an NCAA hole large enough to drive a dump truck full of cash through. At least, wink and nod, as long as you don't tell the recruit what you're doing. The NCAA had a chance to send a message that would reverberate throughout the land -- soliciting money to play college sports isn't acceptable.

But, you guessed it, the NCAA dropped the ball, issuing a ruling that levied a tremendous punishment on Newton -- he was ruled ineligible for a single day. A single day! Oh, the humanity! And his dad, you know the preacher who tried to sell his son, he doesn't have full access at Auburn anymore. They've limited his access to the program. Limited. His. Access. For a month. To a program that his son won't even be affiliated with come January 11th.

There have been joke penalties from the NCAA before, but this sets a new standard for wimpiness, the Emperor who wore no clothes meets the college enforcement body with no guts. As a result, now you can go on eBay and auction off your kid. Just, more winking and nodding, don't complete the transaction and actually take the money. Already, Internet pranksters have started listing players. Early Thursday morning this listing appeared: "Quarterback 6'6" 250 lb elusive *Great Liar*" (see screen-grab below)

    The asking price? $180,000.

    Wonder who that might be?

    Re: Newton cleared to play

I cant believe reporters are still reporting this.
A players parents CANNOT solicit a university then send their son there. He will be ineligible. But if a players parent solicits from one university, gets nothing, then sends his son to another university that tehy did not solicit, he will be eligible.

THe Albert Means case set this precident, not Cam. Albert was ineligible at Alabama but he was fine at Memphis, the NCAA ruled
